Meet Stones Hair & Beauty

Situated in the Leicestershire village of Quorn, Stones Hair & Beauty is ran by mother & daughter team, Mags Marshall & Mia Sutton. Having recently celebrated the salon’s 15 year anniversary, The Whistle hears their story.

Owner Mags Marshall grew up in Leicestershire and realised her passion for design at a young age. Whilst working at The Body Shop, she created a window display that caught the eye of founder, Anita Roddick, who subsequently rolled out her design across the UK. Following her creative passion, Mags began her hairdressing career at the age of 17. She completely renovated and opened her first salon on Church Street in Market Harborough, aged just 21. After successfully running the salon for four years, Mags made the decision to close it after she became a mother. “It became very difficult trying to juggle a young family and travelling to a busy salon”, says Mags.

In 2003, Mags opened Stones Hair & Beauty in Quorn, and over the years the salon has become part of the fabric of the village. Mia joined the salon in 2015, leaving her career as a fashion buyer after deciding she needed a change. “We’re both ‘people people’ and love being around our Stones family and clients in the salon environment”, says Mia, “I love that no two days are the same.”

Something really special about the salon is the team, who are close-knit and welcoming. “Our team is more than a team, we really are a family and we pride ourselves on that”, says Mags, “some of our team have been here from day one”. Mags and Mia also have a great dynamic between them; Mia enjoys the social media and marketing side of the business, whilst Mags is a passionate creative and still does hairdressing part time. Mags has recently returned from South Africa where she lived for 9 months with her husband, Ian Marshall, the Leicester City football legend.

Stones Hair & Beauty has a very earthy and eco-friendly feel to it, created by lots of plants and natural wood flooring. The salon uses Matrix colour and products, including the Matrix Biolage R.A.W range - natural, vegan products which are free from animal testing. The salon also uses Moroccan Oil and Olaplex, to strengthen processed hair. “We won’t colour a client’s hair if we know the hair will be compromised; Olaplex allows us to do more with the colour whilst keeping it strong and healthy; we’re a colour responsible salon.” Last year, the salon also introduced Rapture hair extensions - an easy way to introduce colour, length and volume to the hair.

Yet Stones Hair & Beauty is not just a hair salon, they also offer a large range of beauty treatments including nails, massage and facials using Dermalogica products. Their talented beautician, Jenna, is Dermalogica trained and is always in high demand, so make sure you book in advance!

And of course, the salon would not be complete without mascot, Frank, Mia’s french bulldog who keeps the salon in order with his charming good looks, posing and laying in the sun.
