Christmas light switch-ons in Leicestershire



Friday 16th November 2018

From 4pm

Enjoy the Tin Hat Fair, real reindeer, live music, market and Santa's Grotto. Hinckley's very own BBC Sports Personality Unsung Hero, Denise Shannon, will be switching on the lights along with successful local male vocal group '4th Avenue' and the Mayor. Fireworks will follow.

Leicester City Centre

Thursday 22nd November 2018

From 5pm

Head to Humberstone Gate for the official lights switch-on, and enjoy a whole host of entertainment from 5pm onwards. Leicester’s very own X Factor winner, Sam Bailey, will be performing, as well as CBeebies’ Cat Sandion and BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard.

For the first time, Leicester’s switch-on will be broadcast live on TV thanks to ITV News Central  and their weather presenter Des Coleman will also be there on the night.

This year’s theme for Town Hall Square’s display is Alice in Wonderland. The traditional Nativity scene will also be set up.

Tithe Barn, Cosby

Saturday 24th November


The barn’s first traditional Christmas Market. The light switch on will take place at the first market day on 24th November from 6.30-7pm. Other dates for the Christmas market are available at the end of November and into December. Check their website for all the details.


Sunday 25th November 2018

All day

Entertainment starts from noon with school and community choirs, the Sock Gallery holding their Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair plus a specialist market in the Market Place. The Christmas lights will be switched on from 18:00-19:00

Melton Mowbray

Friday 30th November 2018

09:30 - 20:00

Join the festivities from 09.30am with performances from local schools, choirs, bands and artists. There will also be Victorian christmas stalls until 8pm. Santa will parade down Nottingham Street at 4pm, before taking his place in the magical grotto in Market Place until 8pm.

The lights switch on will take place at 6.45pm! There will be free parking throughout the day in the long stay car parks at Burton Street, Scalford Road and Mill Street.


Friday 30th November

6 pm – 8 pm

Packed with festive fun, the event will include Santa’s grotto, fun fair, mulled wine, a hog roast and lots to keep the family entertained including on-stage entertainment and the Christmas Lights Switch-On at 7.30pm. All followed by a fireworks display!

Loros Hospice

Sunday 2nd December

From 2.30pm

During the event the LOROS Christmas tree lights will be lit with hundreds of lights, each in memory of a loved one. Guests will also be given the opportunity to see their loved ones name appear in the book of remembrance located in the chapel.

The event starts from 2.30pm, a park and ride service will operate from County Hall, Glenfield to the Hospice from 2.30 pm. The service will take place at 4.30pm and will last 30 minutes. There will also be festive stalls on the day along with refreshments available.
