Supermarket yoga - Waitrose trials in-store classes!
Waitrose customers will soon be saying ‘Namaste’ as the supermarket trials evening yoga sessions - run by qualified instructors - in three of its shops. Although not in Leicester as of yet, from Monday 12 February, Waitrose shops in Basingstoke and Newbury will host evening in store yoga sessions for an initial trial period. From Monday 19 February, customers at its new Banbury shop, which opened last month, will also be able to take part.
Moira Howie, Nutrition Manager at Waitrose, said: “We know that overall well-being is increasingly important to our customers. In addition to eating well they can now relax and enjoy the benefits of yoga in selected Waitrose stores while meeting new people.”
Sam Rao, Senior Yoga Teacher whose school is running the classes, commented: "My recommendation is to eat well and move well so yoga in a supermarket could be the perfect balance. Yoga works the whole body and is a discipline for all. Stretching and working the muscles has always been associated with releasing stress both in the body and the mind, leading to good health."
Classes will be suitable for all levels - from beginners to advanced yogis - and will cost £7 per session or £35 for six sessions. They’ll be run by local, qualified yoga professionals that are fully-certified to practice and teach yoga. Customers can book online at www.waitrose.co.uk/yoga
Waitrose will review whether it introduces yoga evenings to other shops once the trial has finished. Do you fancy yoga in the aisles? It could be coming to a store near you soon!
