Made to look like an Easter egg, the chocolatey twist on the classic recipe makes it the perfect treat for everyone to enjoy

This Easter, Waitrose shows that panettone need not be a treat saved for Christmas, as the supermarket introduces its Panettone Easter Egg, giving the classic Italian sweet bread loaf an egg-citing Easter makeover.

Egg-shaped and sprinkled with pretty pastel sugar confetti, the delicious chocolate-chip-laden loaf is designed to look just like an Easter egg and will make for the perfect Easter Sunday centrepiece.

The eye-catching Easter treat is made using a traditional sourdough recipe, nurtured since 1964, which is combined with butter and chocolate during a long dough-making process for over 12 hours to make sure it’s of the highest quality for family and friends to enjoy.

Stuart Owens, Waitrose Product Developer, said: “Panettone is a popular choice with our customers and we want to offer them the chance to enjoy it outside of the festive period, so we’re really excited to be able to introduce it as part of our seasonal range. Made to look like an Easter egg, the chocolatey twist on the classic recipe makes it the perfect treat for everyone to enjoy.”

The new Waitrose Panettone Easter Egg is available in Waitrose branches nationwide and online, from 12th March, priced at £10 (600g).
