The Instagram Algorithm: What’s the latest?

It seems as though every instagram user on earth is unhappy with the current algorithm, which was introduced back in 2016. Instagram made a change to the way the app worked, moving from chronological posts to prioritising “the moments we will care about the most”.

But after nearly 2 years of complaints, Instagram has finally listened, and in the last couple of weeks have announced the changes they plan to make “to give you control over your feed and ensure the posts you see are timely”.

They are testing out a “New Posts” button which will allow you to refresh your feed whenever you like, removing the automatic refreshing in the process. And although fully chronological posting isn’t returning, Instagram have said they are “making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in your feed”. This can only be a good thing!

Instagram will be sharing more about improvements they are making to our feeds over the coming months. What do you think about the changes?
