The revamped Market Harborough Carnival is coming to town!

New committee reveals details of revamped Market Harborough Carnival

The newly formed committee for this year’s Market Harborough Carnival has released details of the revamped event, which will be taking place on 9 June.

Although there will be many elements which remain the same from previous carnivals, such as the procession of floats through the town, there will be new features seen for the first time this year.

Headlining the day will be TV presenter and celebrity Timmy Mallet, known for his whacky shirts and colourful glasses and foam mallet, making an exclusive appearance on the main stage and performing a version of his latest show.

Also new to this year’s Carnival is the introduction of the Harborough Heroes, publicly voted people of the community, recognised for their contribution to the town. An adult and a child Hero will be appointed at the Carnival, after being voted for by the public from a shortlist selected by members of the Committee and representatives from Harborough Mail.

Paul Milligan, Chairman of the Market Harborough Carnival Committee said: “We’re really excited about bringing a new feel to this year’s Carnival. There will still be many of the much-loved aspects to the day, such as the float procession and a programme of local performers; but also new elements which bring a family-orientated feel to the day, such as a children’s marquee, sponsored by Linden Homes.

“And of course, we’re delighted to have Timmy Mallet spending the day with us too!”

There will be bar and food stalls from local producers open until 8pm, and this year, entertainment will be continuing into the evening with performances from The Smarties and The Stereosonics.

This year’s Carnival will be helping four local charities to raise much needed funds, and they will be Bower House, LOROS, East Midlands Air Ambulance and VASL.
