Heather Scarecrow Festival 2018

From Sunday 29th July to Sunday 5th August, the Heather Scarecrow Festival will take place and is set to be a fantastic weekend once again.

For one weekend, the gardens of Heather will be full of many different scarecrows, who are all hoping to be crowned the 2018 winner. From celebs to familiar characters, the scarecrows are on show for everyone to see.

Scarecrow guides are available to purchase for £2 to help visitors find all of the scarecrows and vote for their favourite. There is even a scarecrow treasure hunt with prizes to be won!

All money raised through the sale of Scarecrow guides goes towards the Heather village, with last year’s funds (a whopping £8,040!) donated to village groups such as the Pre-school and School, St John the Baptist Church and Heather St John’s Football Club for ongoing projects and equipment.

If you’d like to attend the festival, the scarecrow headquarters are based at the football club (LE67 2QJ) where you can park and find other facilities.

Heather Scarecrow Festival began in 1996 when local resident Diane Everett and her husband John came upon a scarecrow festival in Yorkshire. Having never seen anything like this before, the idea was born and from 1998 onwards, the village hasn’t looked back since. Over the years the festival has grown in popularity with more and more scarecrows being entered into the competition. One year over 100 were made!

So head down to the Heather Scarecrow Festival for some creative summer fun!
