Beyond Basic x George’s Hairdressing: A Beautiful Collaboration
By Chloë Green
These two Leicestershire beauty brands have joined forces to create the ultimate makeover experience.
Make up artist and owner of Beyond Basic, Abi Draycott, began her career in beauty when she left school, aged just 16. She has worked in various salons over the years, as well as being surrounded by glitter and body paint during her time living in Ibiza. More recently, Abi worked for Mac Cosmetics in Leicester and Derby, where she did freelance work on the side and began to build up her own client base. “I decided I wanted to work for myself full-time but taking that leap is a big step and it can be quite daunting.”
So in June 2017, Abi made the move to an events agency in order to reduce her hours and carry on growing her brand, Beyond Basic, simultaneously. “Social media has really helped the creative industry in the last few years and people’s perceptions are changing. Beauty is no longer a career for people who didn’t do well at school” says Abi, “instead, it is a huge opportunity for people to build a life with a vast amount of doors open to them, developing their skills and techniques to become specialist at what they do! And in doing so, they are able to inspire others through their natural creative flair and passion for what they do.”
Beyond Basic offers a variety of beauty services including occasion makeup, makeup lessons, lashes & brows and semi-permanent makeup, including Microblading. Abi works from a few bases across Leicestershire including, Enderby, Thringstone and also from Divinity Hair and Beauty in Hinckley.
Now, Abi is embarking on a new adventure bringing her talent to the renowned hair salons of George’s Hairdressing in Leicester. George’s Hairdressing was established nearly 40 years ago and has been looking after the people of Leicestershire ever since. Their commitment to training means they have developed a record breaking amount of ID and colour ID artists over the years, and their focus on customer care means they make sure each client’s visit is a memorable one! Thanks to Beyond Basic, George’s customers will now be able to get both their hair and makeup done in the salon, plus there will be opportunities for personal makeup lessons with Abi. Looking great is now even more convenient!
Working with George’s is a great match for Abi, whose specialism in semi-permanent makeup services complement ‘The Jakki Williams Room’ - a dedicated room within George’s Allandale Road Salon for clients suffering with hair loss. A team of wig specialists offer a variety of services including wig colouring, styling, and cutting, to ensure every client feels and looks their best. “I love providing clients with that instant feel good factor” says Abi. The partnership will see Abi based in all four of George’s salons in Oadby, Stoneygate, and two in Leicester city centre on Granby Street and London Road.
London Rd Hair is the newest salon by George’s, and opened in September 2017. On Thursday 13th September from 18:30-21:00, the salon is set to host an upcoming event called ‘Out of this Worldie’ which will celebrate the collaboration between George’s and Beyond Basic.

Abi is a strong advocate of people taking a chance and following their passions, and believes that everyone should take the opportunities around them. “The scariest part of any challenge you face is the fear of something not going the way you planned. Ultimately you can never predict the future, but I believe that if you ever think you can't do something, work twice as hard at it to prove yourself wrong and make it happen!”
