The Bodie Hodges Foundation
The Bodie Hodges Foundation was founded in 2013 by Nick & Donna Hodges, in memory of their son Bodie, who sadly passed away following a choking accident, aged just 10 months old. The Bodie Hodges Foundation was set up to offer support to families who have been bereaved of a child, whilst also raising awareness of organ donation.
When families lose a child, getting away for a short break can provide much needed respite and support during the grieving process. Bodie’s Boathouse is a purpose-built lodge at Tallington Lakes, just outside Stamford. With beautiful views over the lake, the boathouse offers families time & space to reflect, relax and explore, all at no cost. Wherever families are in their grief journey, the boathouse is there to support them.
At the boathouse, the charity’s ‘With Love’ project gives every family the opportunity to have a keepsake toy made from their child’s clothing. There are also Treasured Memory Bags available, which are there to support siblings living with the death of a brother or sister. The bags contain resources including workbooks and stories to help children dealing with grief to understand their emotions.
Another focus for The Bodie Hodges Foundation is education around organ donation. Bodie’s organs went on to save or change the lives of 4 other children in need of transplants, and through them his legacy lives on.
In September 2018, the charity launched their schools education programme, which has been delivered to key stage 4 & 5 pupils across Leicestershire & Rutland. The programme informs pupils of the facts around organ donation, and encourages them to start a conversation with their families and make their wishes known. The charity are currently running a #StartTheConversation campaign in schools which prompts people to talk, dispels myths, and helps people to make informed decisions.
The Bodie Hodges Foundation run regular fundraising events which includes their annual sports dinner.
